Lucky Sevens: District of Columbia flag

This is the flag of Washington DC. A few years ago, however, there was talk of changing it slightly. Your Lucky Sevens question for February: What change was almost made to the DC flag?

It was proposed to put "no taxation without representation" across the red stripes and DC below the stripes.

That's correct. Here's a picture of the proposal.
The two bar, three star design is based on George Washington's family coat of arms. The addition of "DC" to the middle star and "Taxation Without Representation" to the bars was proposed in 2002, but support for the change fell apart and the bill was never signed.

hmmm...the picture I found of the proposed flag had "DC" written below the stripes. Interesting.
